In the current job market, there is a gigantic demand for professionals in just about every sector. So when you are looking for a new job, it is quite possible that you will be confronted with an overload of available vacancies.

In order to avoid having to go through every single job description in great detail, Walters People staffing specialist has 5 handy screening tips for you. This way you will be able to pick out the most interesting offers in no time.

Start by filtering the job offers

If you are a candidate and you do not know what you are looking for, you have to make a choice first. Think about what you like to do, what your ambitions are and what is important to you in your job. Once you have determined this, you can start filtering the vacancies on the basis of job titles.

The time you want to spend on commuting is also important: you should indicate the region in which you want to work. You will see that the range of vacancies immediately becomes much more manageable.

Take the desired profile into account

Once you have found an interesting job offer, check immediately whether you qualify as a candidate. If the employer's desired profile matches your knowledge and experience, this is most likely the case. By the way, you do not have to meet all the job requirements. The perfect candidate simply does not exist.

Find out more about the company

If you meet the job requirements, do some research about the company that published the vacancy. Find out whether you can identify with the organisation's core business and culture. You may find a job interesting, but if your values and standards differ too much from those of the company, this will eventually cause problems.

Take a closer look at the job description

Are you convinced of the position and the organisation? That is a good start, but be sure to go deeper into the job description. This will give you an idea of the range of tasks and of what precisely is expected of you. If several things in the job description are unclear to you, do not hesitate to contact the recruiter. Contact details can usually be found at the bottom of the job description. This way you show that you are interested in the job.

Use job alerts

Do you already know which vacancies appeal to you most? Then you can make it easier on yourself by saving your search criteria. Most job boards now offer the option of creating a 'job alert' based on these search criteria. That way, the most interesting job offers will automatically arrive in your inbox.
