Audrey Hannecart  is a perfect example of the internal career possibilities Walters People has to offer. She joined Walters People as a recruitment consultant in 2013. For a period of 3 years, she was responsible for recruiting internal staff for our Belgian offices in the role of Hiring & Talent Manager. In 2020 Audrey decided to return to the job of senior recruitment consultant, this time in the Business Support division.

Thanks to her experience as both a recruitment consultant and an internal recruiter, she knows better than anyone why ambitious recent graduates and young professionals should consider a career in recruitment and why now is the ideal time to start at Walters People.

How did you end up in the world of recruitment?

Audrey: "I had just finished my Masters in Commercial Sciences and was looking for a fun and fast-paced environment with a focus on people. Four years later I became responsible for the internal recruitment of the Walters People and Robert Walters offices in Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Groot-Bijgaarden and Zaventem. More than a year ago, in the middle of the Covid crisis, I decided to go back to work as a consultant in order to focus on finding the ideal match between clients and candidates. Meanwhile, I have been promoted to Manager and I take the team under my wing.

What skills are important for a job as a recruiter?

"We are very team-oriented, so it is very important that our colleagues are social and have a lively personality. It's great if you're commercially minded and it's a bonus if you have a background in finance or HR, but personality is still the most important thing. We prefer driven and ambitious colleagues who are eager to write a success story at Walters People."

What can a recent graduate expect from a job at Walters People?

"To be successful in recruitment you need to quickly develop a number of skills such as communication skills, sales techniques, working efficiently and business acumen. Once you have mastered these skills, recruitment is like a springboard to a successful career in general. If you are ambitious and focused on success, then the fast paced and international environment at Walters People is for you.”

What makes working at Walters People so unique?

"What makes Walters People so unique is our meritocratic approach whereby your success is entirely based on your own merit and performance. If you have the passion and dedication to progress, you can quickly grow into a senior position. In addition, each year the group rewards the best performing consultants with incentive weekends to top locations such as Miami, Phuket and Barbados. It's things like this that motivate everyone in the team to go the extra mile."

What is the working atmosphere like in the Belgian offices?

"Our teams have a close relationship and are all hard workers. We believe in open communication and 100% commitment, both on the work floor and in team activities. We regularly go out together, do all sorts of activities together, have a drink after work and even run marathons together."

Why is now the ideal time to start as a recruitment consultant?

"The Belgian job market has improved significantly and Walters People continues to grow every year. To further support this growth, we have hired additional people in all our offices and opened a new office in Antwerp. We are constantly looking for ambitious professionals and recent graduates with a commercial flair to join our team and build their own success story."
