Ready to kick-off your career? Are you looking to work in a fast-paced and fun environment with a strong people focus?
Audrey Hannecart started her career as a recruitment consultant for Walters People in 2013. She now works in our internal recruitment team, hiring staff for our offices across Belgium. She tells us why ambitious graduates and young professionals should consider a career in recruitment and talks about why now is a great time to join Walters People.
How did you get into recruitment?
I had just graduated with a Master in commercial science and I was looking for a fast-evolving and dynamic environment with a strong people focus. Fast forward 4 years and I now recruit for Walters People’s Belgian offices in Brussels, Zaventem, Groot-Bijgaarden, Antwerp and Ghent.
What sort of skills are needed for a role as recruiter?
We are very team-focused, so a sociable and vibrant personality is the most important thing for us. It’s great to be sales-orientated and it’s a bonus to have a background in either finance or HR, but the attitude of the individual is key. We want people who are driven and ambitious.
What does a job with Walters People offer graduates?
To be successful in recruitment you will need to quickly develop a wide range of skills like effective communications, sales tactics, personal effectiveness and business acumen. Developing these skills makes recruitment a springboard for a successful career in general. If you have lots of ambition and drive to succeed, the fast pace and international nature of Walters People will appeal to you as well.
What’s unique about working at Walters People?
One of the things that sets Walters People apart is our meritocratic approach, in that your success is solely based on your merit and performance. If you have the passion and dedication to progress, you could quickly evolve into a senior role. The group also rewards top achievers each year with incentive weekends to top locations such as Miami, Phuket and Barbados. Things like this really motivate everyone in the team to go that extra mile.
Can you describe the culture in the Belgian offices?
Our teams are very close-knit and hard working. We believe in open communication and always give 100%, whether it is during work or team bonding activities. We love going out together and partaking in various activities from after work drinks to running marathons together.
Why is now a good time to start a career as a recruitment consultant?
The Belgian labour market has improved greatly over the past few years, and as a result, Walters People has grown significantly year on year as well. In order to support our growth, we have expanded our teams in all our locations and opened a new office in Antwerp. We’re constantly looking for ambitious professionals and graduates with a commercial attitude who want to join our teams and grow their own success.
Whether you are a graduate or a junior professional looking to make the switch into recruitment, we want to hear from you! We’re looking for ambitious and driven people, who are passionate about growing a long-term career.
